When to come to Madrid?

The preferred period for school trip in Madrid is spring. Good temperatures ensure the success of walking tours and other open-air activities, but the influx of groups is enormous, which often complicates the booking process and access to the emblematic sites. So you wil  have to go a long way in advance. But Madrid enjoys a privileged climate all year round: the rainy days in Madrid do not exceed, by far, the 70 days a year, so you can enjoy the capital and its charms as well in autumn and in winter. Planning a school trip in Madrid at the beginning of September or October is a great idea: few people, a sunny and pleasant whether guaranteed, and a fantastic way to know your students early in the school year and to forge links. Think about it!

Summer is the most problematic season: in this case you have to plan visits and indoor activities (museums, institutions, Spanish courses), aquatic activities (the summer pools are fantastic in Madrid), tours out of the capital (Segovia, North of the Madrid, is a great option in summer) and leave the visits on foot for the beginning of the evening. Caps, sunglasses and water bottles should accompany you everywhere.

Schedule of main sites

Depending on the period you plan for your school trip in Madrid, it will be important to check the schedules of visiting the sites: for many activities, schedules are different from March to October and from November to February. We will check those every deatils with you to optimize your visits and your program of stay.

Transportation in Madrid

Whether you choose accommodation in host families or in a hotel, a key element of your stay will be the Madrid subway. Very easy to use, clean and very safe, this is the best way to get around the capital. Ideally, a small preparation of the students before departure will be welcome: you can show them a plan of the metro of Madrid, and start preparing their journeys so that they find the different lines, and teach them how to ask their way, etc … Is undoubtedly a very motivating activity for them !

The price of a 10-journey ticket is 12,20 € at the time we are writing this post. This ticket can be enough for a stay of 4 or 5 nights, depending on the number of planned activities, but for longer stays, the Bono Joven (youth subscription) is more profitable. Its cost is 20€ + 4 € of charge for the card itself, and covers the airport supplement (5 € per person, which is quite expensive) and all public transports (bus, subway and regional trains). We can organize the purchase of these cards, prior arrival, and send them by registered mail before the beginning of your stay: you will save the airport surcharge on arrival. Contact us!

Their location is selected to facilitate the autonomous travel of your students, both on foot and in public transport.

Now, because of the different security measures to which schools are subjected, and a fortiori if your students are young pupils, you may wish to minimize their autonomous movementsin the city. In this case, we propose two solutions: either a family accompaniment up to one or two meeting points with the teachers, in the morning and in the evening (a supplement is applied for this service) or accommodation in a hotel.

Accommodation in a hotel is very convenient for schools wishing to guarantee student supervision 24 hours a day. We have the best hotel rates with half board or full board included, in the very center of Madrid. Do not hesitate to contact us.

Activities off the beaten track

Of course, the must-sees will remain the unavoidable Prado, Reina Sofia, Royal Palace, Santiago Bernabeu stadium, but Madrid has so much more to offer your students. We can offer you many innovative, fun, cultural and sports activities, to make your school trip in Madrid a unique experience.
